San Jacinto Options for Police, Fire and EMS Scanners.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) uses VHF low-band radio communications which can be monitored on any scanner. Cal Fire is high-band and also analog.
The best Riverside County police and fire scanner is a trunking scanner. Riverside County public safety uses an EDACS(R) trunked radio system for their communications. The city of Palm Springs Police Department uses a Motorola trunking radio system. Riverside County fire operates VHF high-band radios which can be received on any scanner. The city of Riverside can be monitored on any basic scanner as they do not use trunking or digital radios at this time. Other cities such as Banning, Blythe, Cathedral City, Corona, Hemet, Indio, Moreno Valley, and Murrieta all use basic conventional police radio systems that can be monitored on any scanner. However, because Riverside County Sheriff and law enforcement for a number of other communities in the county operate on the EDACS system a trunking scanner is recommended for this county. A trunking scanner will also work in neighboring San Bernardino County.
